Since the 2015 trading deadline numerous reports have indicated that Detroit Red Wings and general manager Ken Holland are interested in trading for Toronto Mapel Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf. The team wasn’t able to find a proper deal at the deadline, but many thought that it would be easier to find a deal at the draft.
Reports from M Live and Anasar Khan however now indicates that the Wings no longer have any interest in trading for Phaneuf. It is widely believed that the Leafs would like to move Phaneuf and his salary to speed up their rebuild.
30-year-old Phaneuf is currently the captain of the Maple Leafs. He has an annual cap hit of $ 7 million. Last season he played 70 regular season games and collected 3 goals and 26 assists. Phaneuf was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2003, as 9th overall in the first round.
